Current Skin Saviours

If there is one thing avid readers of this blog will know about me is that the battle between me and my skin is constantly changing.

Having stress related acne is unbelievably irritating. Sure, my diet and my hormones probably play a part as well, but generally I could be feeling fine and my skin would say otherwise. For those of you who don't know or are new reading I have majorly combination skin, literally dry to oily and normal patches in a matter of seconds.

Just before November I decided I wanted to start my skincare routine again. I often do this when my skin is at a more 'difficult' time, as then I feel I will see the results quicker.

It all started when my Mum was in town with her friend and I text her asking her to pick me up a bottle of neat tea tree from 'The Body Shop', (I often use this on 'freshly popped (nice) spots as well as my back.) Whilst she was getting it a sales assistant recommended the 'Tea Tree Anti-Imperfection Daily Solution'. Working as a serum, applied either morning and night or both the serum works really well at reducing the spots, blemishes and any other imperfections on the skin. Generally, my skin reacts really well with tea tree, and I feel that this product has made a massive difference to my skin, and I can really see the benefits when I have/haven't used it.

Next up is a face mask that is a major game changer. The Origins 'Out of Trouble' face mask may just be my favourite face mask ever. To make a simple story even simpler, my Mum and I were in Exeter shopping for the day, and literally 5 minutes before heading back to the train station I realised that a couple weeks earlier I had mentioned wanting to try some Origins products on my clearly troubled skin. Plymouth no longer has an active Origins counter/stand where I could talk to someone and get some advise, and behold Exeter does. Originally, I wanted to try the Active Charcoal Mask, and I think I will in due course, however the lovely sales assistant who I would travel to Exeter for just to see for advice recommended this mask for me. With Zinc as a high ingredient in the mask and another favourite for my skin, I had an inkling my skin would react well, and I was right. I've noticed it tends to bring out more spots and pores rather than reduce them, however I don't think this is a bad thing at all, as my scars are then healing almost instantly; something that has never happened before. I can now say that after a couple of months use twice a week for 20 (30-40) minutes, this face mask is really working on my skin well, and I don't plan on taking it out of my routine any time soon.

Finally is a cleanser, surely it would have been logical for me to start with this, but it was only the other day I realised how much this has been working on my skin. The 'Effaclar Purifying Cleansing Gel' from La Roche Posay was the final piece of the puzzle missing. I still use my Liz Earle cleanse and polish to take off my make-up, however I was starting to not like the results of using it as a cleanser after removing my make-up. I wanted something simple and useful and hopefully wouldn't react with my other skin care products. At first I was skeptical, especially as gel foaming cleansers are usually a 'no no' in the beauty world, yet this one is different. Whilst we were away in London my skin was at its worst it has been in ages, without being too gross/tmi I had new major spots and lumps every morning and felt like I had even more by the end of the day. I'd take my make-up off back at the hotel, treat my face how it needed to be treated and then use this cleanser, and to say I could feel the benefits would be an understatements. The medicinal and pure 'feel' that all La Roche Posay products have really comes across in the application and feel when it is 'working' on the skin. I will be honest, I have switched in and out a few different cleansers throughout the past month, however this one wins the cleanser battle hands down.

And there we have it! My current favourite skin care saviours, I do have a couple of others in my current routine however I don't think they have been as noticeably impactful and the mentioned products above!
